Sorry, we can't help you

She worked for the company for 15 years. In that time she received one promotion, but received much praise and pomp, the kind where her boss called her up to the stage in front of her co-workers. She received awards, plaques, company bucks to spend on logo-engraved goodies.

She took her job seriously. When her kids were sick, she and her husband stretched themselves thin so the kids were taken care of, and she still gave her full effort at work. Migraines would hit, but she'd still deliver the goods and suffer silently, returning back to the job the next day. She was the go-to person in her department. She knew how to get shit done.

When the company let her go, she was optimistic about working with the out-placement consultant. She was told that there was a program in place for people at her level. Under that program she would be told about comparable jobs available to her. Oh wait, that program isn't available to her after all. It seems that her salary has been much lower than her grade level, which bars her from getting a comparable job. It also lowers her severance considerably. It's a good thing the consultant checked. In fact, she's not even supposed to have access to the consultant. Bye bye now.
